“New York should not let the hands that feed us go hungry. Restaurant workers are the largest group of full time workers living in poverty and they are being completely left out of this increase. We’re glad that New York State is taking action to improve conditions for low-wage workers by increasing the minimum wage, but excluding tipped workers from the proposed plan is a huge oversight and ignores the needs of millions of New York workers. Gov. Cuomo and New York’s political leaders must include all of New York’s workers in new minimum wage increase legislation.”
At 2 pm EST Wednesday, March 20, ROC United and the NY Minimum Wage Coalition hosted a Twitter rally targeting Gov. Cuomo and New York State Senators Malcolm Smith, Diane Savino, and Jeff Klein.
As of Thursday morning, News Today published Saru Jayaraman’s statement in their article “Tip Workers Excluded from Minimum Pay Deal.”
