I work at a popular chain steakhouse. I’ve worked here since I was in high school. I’m trying to put myself through nursing school. I make $2.13 an hour plus tips. I am required to come in to work an hour early to prepare for that night’s shift. (no tips just $2.13 an hour). If the cash drawer at the Bar is short on a particular night, the shortage is taken from my tips. #LivingOffTips is frustrating and often inconsistent and unreliable. A bad week of tips means I may not be able to make my car payment. I am also required to be on duty from 3 p.m. until close (11:00 pm) and I am not allowed to eat during that time.
