The National Restaurant Association is the lobby of choice for Fortune 500 restaurant companies like McDonald’s, YUM! Brands, and the largest full-service restaurant company in the world, Darden Restaurants Inc (owner of Red Lobster, Capital Grille, Olive Garden, among others).
Not surprisingly, they’re heavily involved in anti-worker campaigns: they are one of the leading forces in keeping the federal tipped minimum wage at $2.13/hour (where it’s been stuck since 1991) and blocking minimum wage increases across the country.
Just a couple days ago, they and Darden Restaurants were caught orchestrating a high-profile statement against raising the minimum wage.
But their tentacles reach far beyond wages. The National Restaurant Association (NRA) is also working against decent jobs, women’s rights, animal welfare, and safe, healthy, sustainable food.
