Yesterday, ROC-NY travelled to the Albany statehouse to lobby for the passage of legislation that will eliminate the tipped minimum wage and establish a fair living wage for all workers in New York, tipped or untipped.
Co-sponsored by State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffe, this legislation will ensure all workers in New York State receive a fair, living wage. Last year’s wage increase in New York increased wages for all workers in the state except for tipped workers. They continue to receive a lower wage, and thus rely on tips to survive. This cannot stand!
ROC-NY made their presence felt, impressing upon legislators how One Fair Wage will afford restaurant workers with the financial stability necessary to plan for the future, support their families, and advocate for themselves when victimized by customers, coworkers, or employers.
