The president must also call on Congress to ensure that this Congress’ minimum wage increase bill includes an increase for tipped workers—which has been frozen at $2.13 an hour since 1991. Then, and only then, can we ensure that all workers earn a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.
The WAGES Act raises the minimum wage of tipped employees from the current level of $2.13 per hour to $3.75 per hour within the 1st 3 months, to $5 per hour within 1st year, and to 70% of minimum wage after two years.
