Hi, my name is Jamal, originally from New York City, and I’ve been in the restaurant industry for about 11 years. Currently, I am working as a merchandise receiver for Restaurant Associates on the World Bank contract. I am fighting for livable wages, paid sick days and justice for people in the restaurant industry.

Many unjust things go on in the restaurant industry, but I will always remember one incident, where a chef at a restaurant that I used to work at, used racist language when speaking to me. Incidents like this made me join ROC- DC to fight for a just industry. My vision of a just industry is one that respects the ideals, work ethic and the efforts of the employees. One where the human being is valued.
