Response to NY Min Wage Deal: ROC United Urges One Fair Wage That Includes Tipped Workers
The following is a statement from ROC United co-founder Saru Jayaraman:

New York, NY — ROC United congratulates the many workers in the state of New York who will see their wages increase in light of today’s decision by legislators. A decision that ensures more workers enjoy the dignity and security that comes with a living wage is certainly a welcome one. While we are proud that our collective efforts resulted in a partial increase for the states 300,000 tipped workers — largely women and people of color — New York should follow California’s lead by ensuring one fair wage of $15 per hour for all workers in New York State. Tipped workers disproportionately face poverty, financial insecurity, discrimination, and sexual harassment. They too deserve a wage that is equal to that of their non-tipped counterparts.

ROC United will continue to partner with workers and their allies to demand One Fair Wage for all workers, in New York and nationwide.
