How did you get involved with ROC? Having worked with ROC in coalitions in the past, I learned about the particular struggles that people in the restaurant industry face: racism, sub-minimum wage, lack of paid sick days. Given my experience, the more I researched these issues the more I thought I could make an impact for the better.
What do you hope to accomplish at ROC? I want to empower workers to understand that they do have a voice, and that they can make a difference. Ultimately, I want to help to transform the industry into something that is more fair and equitable, where the workers can have power and work without fear. At ROC, together, I think we can accomplish that.

Samuel Jones is the Director of the Restaurant Opportunities Center of Pennsylvania or ROC PA. Prior to assuming the position of director, Sam was the Lead Policy Organizer for ROC PA. Before joining ROC, Sam was the Lead Organizer at Fight for Philly, a community organization which advocated for public education and economic justice in Philadelphia.
Sam serves as Chair of the Philadelphia Unemployment Project Board of Directors and is on the steering committees of the Raise the Wage PA Coalition and the We The People PA Coalition.
Sam is a graduate of Yale University and traces his passion for social justice to his experience as a second-grade student who was one of three African American children to desegregate the school district in his hometown of Seaford, Delaware.
