The Restaurant Opportunities Center of Seattle (ROC-Seattle) was founded in 2013 with a mission to improve wages and working conditions for individuals working in the restaurant industry. We build power and voice for restaurant workers through grassroots organizing, policy change, and partnering with responsible restaurateurs.

ROC-Seattle is a multi-racial organization consisting of worker members dedicated to confronting the daily challenges they face in the industry. We build power through a tri-pronged strategy:

1) Organizing against exploitation, discrimination, and sexual harassment to win unpaid wages and workplace policy changes, especially focused on outreach to low-wage workers marginalized at the intersections of race, gender and immigration status;

2) Conducting policy work to improve wages and working conditions industry-wide; and

3) Partnering with responsible employers to promote a ‘high road’ to profitability, while helping ROC members obtain living-wage jobs in the industry through training and leadership development.

Currently, ROC-Seattle is advocating to strengthen workers’ rights in Washington State to tips and service charges, and helping lead ROC-United’s work in confronting racial and gender segregation in the industry.

Together with our members, high-road owners and consumers, we are creating fair, safe and equitable jobs where all workers thrive.
